Phase 1: June 11 Update
Construction continues on Phase 1 and there is a lot of activity and progress on the Uplands portion of The Bay Park.
Next week, the city will be paving and reopening Van Wezel Way – the final step in the replacement of an old asbestos water pipe. This will allow park-goers to now access The Bay Park via Van Wezel Way.
In the coming weeks, our team will also complete the last 200-foot segment of the Mangrove Bayou Walkway making it a continuous quarter-mile stretch of 10-foot wide walkable sidewalk. The Mangrove Bayou Walkway will remain open to park visitors throughout the construction of Phase 1.
Steel reinforcement has also been installed which is the initiation of construction of the iconic shade structure that will go over the Concessions Pavilion.
Chief Implementation Officer, Bill Waddill, gives us an update in the below video on what the community can expect as Phase 1 continues and the Uplands area begins to take shape.
